HSE Leader

Position Summary:
This challenging role is critical to delivering “Nobody Gets Hurt” at the Rio Site. The HSSE Leader is a key member of the Rio Plant Leadership Team and leads the Brazil HSSE department responsible for Personal Safety, Security, and Environmental Compliance.

Key Outputs: What we can expect from you
• A strong contributor to the Rio Plant Leadership team
• Supervise the Brazil HSSE Department responsible for Personal Safety, Security and, Environmental Compliance

• Oversee site remediation activities at Brazil

• Key contributor for sustainability activities and site representative with corporate program
• Accountable for environmental and regulatory compliance at Rio
• Sponsor for a number of key OIMS
• Responsible for site security and interfaces with Moove
• Assign HSSE resources for projects
• Lead or participate on several HSSE committees
• Serve as Rio’s Regulatory Affairs contact for internal and external stakeholders
• Any additional responsibilities as assigned

The colleague will gain data management, critical thinking, relationship building skills, and knowledge/expertise which can lead to certification in Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or related field. The colleague will interface with all functions on site, various HSSE groups/committees, and external groups including:
• Active member of committees
• Interface with external consultants and groups
• Emergency Response
• Incident Investigator
• Risk Assessor

A successful candidate is likely to have:
• Bachelor’s degree; good understanding of chemistry, chemical engineering, or occupational health and safety
• Strong Communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to demonstrate and convey concepts to large and small audiences of various levels
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices

• Ability to work independently, with excellent team building skills
