Position Summary:
Infineum is seeking a Senior Battery Scientist to join our Research & Development team in Linden, NJ. This role focuses on the development of innovative polymeric materials for metal-ion batteries, supporting the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market. The successful candidate will lead technical projects, contribute to material innovation, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance Infineum’s energy storage solutions.
Key Outputs: What we can expect from you:
- Lead the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel polymeric materials (e.g., binders, dispersants, coatings, electrolytes) for battery applications.
- Drive technical innovation in support of Infineum’s energy storage strategy.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver project milestones.
- Represent Infineum in technical discussions with customers and industry stakeholders.
- Contribute to the broader polymer R&D portfolio beyond energy storage.
- Maintain a strong safety and compliance culture in all laboratory activities.

A successful candidate is likely to have:
- PhD in Chemistry, with significant synthetic and characterization expertise
- 5+ years of experience in R&D of monomers and polymers supplied into the energy storage field
- Familiarity with the whole range of materials used in cutting edge battery technology
- Experience in lab, pilot and commercial scale preparation of polymers is desirable, particularly
- Controlled polymerization
- Hydrogenated or otherwise modified nitrile butadiene rubbers
- Introduction of novel monomers into established polymerizations
- Acrylates/methacrylates, polyethers, polyesters, polyimides.
- Hands-on experience and capability, although a team of technicians will support synthetic and testing operations we want our Scientists to be involved in the laboratory doing ‘wet chemistry’ at the cutting edge
- A track record of commercial product delivery and IP generation
- Understanding of electrochemistry – methods, data analysis and material characteristics
- Extensive knowledge and network in their industry, from both technical and marketing perspectives that translate into projects with line of sight to solving cutting edge problems
- Ability to deal with uncertainty and ambiguity, taking a flexible approach when needed information is limited by external circumstances.
