Role Title: Research & Development Technician

Role Function and Group: Enabling Electrification – Driveline Tribology Lab

Location:  Linden, NJ

 

Position Summary:     
The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work in a dynamic and growing field - testing specialty lubricants and additives. The lab technician will receive training on various industry standard machines and work in a safe, clean and friendly environment.  While part of a much larger organization, the candidate will be working in a smaller testing facility where every person counts!  The successful candidate should be an individual with strong mechanical aptitude and detail-oriented ability.  

 

This is a Union position.

 

Key Outputs: What we can expect from you

  • Become a key member of a well-functioning laboratory team
  • Organizing testing on multiple machines for best productivity.
  • Ensure preventative machine maintenance and calibrations are performed on-time
  • Operate multiple types of test machines from small bench-top to large freestanding rigs
  • Loading test parts and oils into equipment and monitoring tests for completion
  • Assist team members to distribute workload. 
  • Ensure special requests are prioritized and completed.
  • Inspect and measure end of test parts.
  • Transmit general testing data in an accurate and timely basis.
  • Run time-sensitive testing for production / research samples.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean.
  • Maintain general supplies inventory.
  • Available for some overtime, weekends/evenings.
  • Assembly and disassembly of units for repair purposes
  • Any additional responsibilities as assigned

 

What skills will you gain from this role? 

  • Basic laboratory skills, data analysis, and ability to operate state of the art test equipment.
  • Project management and interaction with engineers and oil formulators.

 

A successful candidate is likely to have: 

  • 3 to 5 years related/mechanical work experience required. 
  • Associates degree is a plus
  • Familiarity with automotive transmissions, automated equipment, bearings, electric motors, and/or air and hydraulic systems is a plus
  • Self-starter - ability to work independently
  • Detail oriented
  • Good communication skills
  • Computer literate (MS Office – Excel, Word, etc)
  • Medium lifting required
  • Ability to use hand/power tools
  • Strong organization and prioritization skills
  • Mechanical troubleshooting and repair a plus
  • Electrical troubleshooting experience a plus
