Role Title:  HSSE Engineer, Process Safety Engineer

 

Role Function and Group:  Global Manufacturing

 

Location:  Bayway
 

Position Summary:     

This position is responsible for managing the process safety and risk assessment programs for a large chemical manufacturing facility, including compliance with all pertinent State and Federal regulations, reporting to Process Safety Leader.

 

Key Outputs: What we can expect from you

  • Bayway Chemical Plant process safety analyses, reviews and corrective recommendations, and compliance with pertinent NJ State (Toxic Catastrophe Prevention Act) and Federal (OSHA Process Safety Management and Risk Management Program) Regulations.
  • Facilitate process hazard analyses (PHAs), risk assessments, and layer of protection analyses (LOPA). 
  • Review process designs and management of change requests to ensure compliance with safety engineering standards.
  • Facilitate training and mentoring of younger engineers on safety engineering technology and systems required to manage site risks and plant changes.
  • Develop dispersion analyses to evaluate consequence and assess risk due to potential hydrocarbons and toxic substance releases. 
  • Interact with Government agencies during site inspections and emergencies.
  • Prepare reports to agencies, as required by regulations.
  • Support unit supervisors on process safety issues, including recommendation of options to prevent incidents or reduce risk identified in process hazard analyses or resulting from compliance audit follow ups.
  • Analysis of new process safety and risk regulations (state and federal) and development of site compliance plans.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations including successful performance on audits.
  • Management of Change program.
  • Model emergency release scenarios and assist in emergency response planning.
  • Support plant Emergency Response Organization during drills and emergencies

 

A successful candidate is likely to have: 

  • Bachelors in Chemical Engineer or related field of study.
  • 5+ years process design and safety engineering, preferably in chemical manufacturing sites.
  • Setting priorities, work simultaneously on multiple tasks, negotiating, problem solving skills, teamwork, continuous improvement, initiative.
  • Interpretation of State and Federal regulations and develop action plans as necessary.
  • Experience in process safety technology, PSM regulatory compliance, and programs to drive improvement.
  • Microsoft Office & SharePoint knowledge required.
  • Process simulation, PrimaTech PHAWorks RA, and dispersion modeling software knowledge a plus.
  • Developing quantitative risk assessments knowledge required.
